Single Ply Roofing
Single Ply roofing or, synthetic membranes, include TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin), FPO (Flexible Polyolefin), POCB (Polyolefine Copolymerisate Binder), EPDM rubber (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) and PVC ( Polyvinyl Chloride). Each has their own advantages to the modern lightweight buildings, particularly if weight and load bearing limits are an important consideration. Additionally, some products are homogenous; others reinforced with glass fibre or polyester. Additionally, synthetic membranes vary in thickness from 1.1mm to 3.1mm.
Single ply roofing; which membrane should I choose?
TPO (Thermoplastic Polyolefin) is considered by many as the new generation of single ply roofing membrane. Essentially incorporating the proven waterproofing properties of EPDM with advanced heat welding capabilities.
TPO, FPO and PVC are more suitable to new build projects. POCB and EPDM are excellent for new and re-roofing and are more robust. All these systems require careful and skilful attention to ensure that laps are permanently heat welded with a hot air gun.
