Seax House, a Local Authority County Hall in Essex required some refurbishment works to a variety of roofs as the existing waterproofing had aged beyond repair. Following a site survey, Proteus Waterproofing provided a specification for a range of systems, including Cold Melt® a cold applied inverted system and Proteus Pro-Felt® BUR.
When working on occupied or public buildings, safety is always of utmost importance, as well as keeping disruptions to a minimum. As Cold Melt® is no odour and cold applied this allowed the day to day operations to continue. Proteus Waterproofing promote fire safe installation methods, regarding the Proteus Pro-Felt® range, conforming to the industry lead Safe2Torch guidelines and is also certified with the highest European Fire Rating Broof T4.
The roof that required an inverted system was suitable to receive an overlay system, therefore Cold Melt®, a no odour cold applied membrane was installed combining Proteus Pro-Therm XPS Plus insulation. This was chosen as it had excellent lambda value and therefore met the required U-Value required. The second roof was striped back to the original asphalt and Proteus Pro-Felt® Ultima Plus Fireguard was installed incorporating Proteus Pro-Therm PIR insulation to improve the thermal performance of the roof. Proteus Waterproofing worked closely with the Proteus Approved Contractor, Mells Roofing Ltd. to ensure the project was completed to a high standard.
Cold Melt® system can include inverted roof insulation and, with or without insulation, can be designed as a paved, ballasted, green or brown roof. The membrane does not become brittle with age, is BBA Certified to last the life of the structure and is made in the UK.
Proteus Pro-Felt® Ultima Plus is a high-performance multi-layer bituminous membrane system, tested to perform in extreme temperatures and weather conditions. This membrane is impervious to water and will achieve a weather-tight roof. It has class leading modified bitumen content which allows the flexible membrane to move with the building and ensure long term durability and performance which is certified by the BBA to be in excess of 30years.
